Actor Yoo Ah In, who was put on trial on charges of habitual drug use, has received a final sentence of probation.
On the morning of July 3, the Supreme Court’s First Division held a sentencing hearing for Yoo Ah In, who was indicted on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic substances), marijuana use, and incitement.
The court stated, “All of the prosecution’s appeals are dismissed,” and finalized the sentence of one year in prison, suspended for two years.
At the first trial in September of last year, Yoo Ah In was sentenced to one year in prison and a fine of 2 million won (approximately $1473) and was taken into custody in the courtroom. Both Yoo Ah In and the prosecution appealed the first trial’s verdict.
At the second trial in February of this year, the court’s judgment on guilt or innocence remained the same as the first trial, but the sentence was reduced to one year in prison, suspended for two years, and a fine of 2 million won. Yoo Ah In was released after spending five months in the Seoul Detention Center.
