Park Ji Hoon, Yoon Kyung Ho, Han Dong Hee, and Lee Hong Nae are set to star in the new drama “Kitchen Soldier” (working title)!

Based on a popular web novel and webtoon of the same name, “Kitchen Soldier” is a military mess hall comedy drama that follows an army cook who trades his rifle for a kitchen knife and his bullet belt for an apron. As he takes on a life-changing quest, he rises to legendary status.

The drama is written by screenwriter Choi Ryong, a former army cook. Paired with director Jo Nam Hyung’s unique and polished direction, the series promises laugh-out-loud comedy and heartfelt emotion. Adding to the anticipation, Park Ji Hoon, Yoon Kyung Ho, Han Dong Hee and Lee Hong Nae will portray a group of colorful soldiers stationed at the fictional Gangrim Outpost.

Park Ji Hoon plays Kang Sung Jae, a newly assigned private and army cook at Gangrim Outpost. Once the top trainee in basic training, Kang Sung Jae falls from grace and becomes a soldier of concern. He then follows a mysterious voice and accepts a quest to transfer to the cook unit.

Yoon Kyung Ho plays Sergeant Park Jae Young of the Fourth Platoon, where Kang Sung Jae is assigned. Known for his strong regional accent, Park Jae Young serves as the administrative supply officer and is nicknamed “time bomb” due to his long history of incidents and accidents. After repeatedly failing to earn a promotion, he remains stuck in his rank. With the arrival of a problematic new recruit, his frustrations only grow.

Han Dong Hee plays First Lieutenant Cho Ye Rin, the commanding officer of Gangrim Outpost. Known for her strong sense of duty and willingness to speak her mind, Cho Ye Rin is a former Reserve Officers’ Training Corps cadet from a women’s university. She stands out among the elite graduates of the Korea Military Academy as the so-called ugly duckling. Assigned to Gangrim Outpost for reasons that remain unclear, she enjoys a quiet routine until a new recruit turns her daily life upside down.

Lee Hong Nae plays Sergeant Yoon Dong Hyun, the senior cook at Gangrim Outpost. Known for having no sense of taste, Yoon Dong Hyun is largely blamed for what many call the dining hall’s dark age. With exactly 100 days left until his discharge, he tries to lay low and avoid trouble. But his routine is upended by the arrival of a strange new recruit, signaling that his final stretch in the military may be anything but smooth.

The drama offers a fun and engaging look at the daily lives of military cooks—soldiers who give up their weekends, wake up first, and finish work last as they prepare three meals a day for their fellow troops. Told through the lens of a game-like quest, the story delivers a fresh take filled with humor and heart. At the center is a private starting at level one, whose journey to becoming a legend is packed with vibrant food scenes and eye-catching moments.

“Kitchen Soldier” is scheduled to premiere in 2026.
