Choi Young Joon has shared his thoughts on his upcoming drama “The Defects”!
Based on a popular webtoon, “The Defects” is an action thriller about children who have been abandoned by their adoptive parents—and their fight for survival and revenge.
Choi Young Joon will play Woo Tae Sik, a subordinate in an illegal adoption trafficking ring, who secretly rescues and protects children who have been returned. After discovering the true nature of the organization, he becomes consumed by guilt and risks everything to protect the children and teach them how to survive.
On why he chose to star in the drama, Choi Young Joon shared, “The subject matter was quite unique, and the fast-paced plot made the script easy to read. The story of children whose lives were once controlled by others, but who eventually find their own paths, was especially moving.”
Regarding how he prepared for the character of Woo Tae Sik, he stated, “Because there are many intense action scenes, I spent a lot of time thinking about how to make those scenes feel more realistic and convincing. Tae Sik is someone who pretends to dispose of the returned children on the surface but is actually saving them. I worked hard to balance those two contrasting sides of him.”
When asked what keywords best describe Woo Tae Sik, he chose “conscience,” “guilt,” and “last chance.” He explained, “Tae Sik is a man who lives with guilt while feeling deep compassion for the children. To those children standing on the brink of death, Tae Sik may have been their last hope—perhaps even their final chance at life.”
Speaking about his co-stars Yum Jung Ah, Won Jin Ah, and Dex, he commented, “Everyone fully embodied their characters. Given the nature of the action thriller genre, teamwork is crucial, and we worked really well together.”
He concluded by urging viewers to tune in, remarking, “We poured our hearts into this drama, so please look forward to it.”
“The Defects” is set to premiere on July 21 at 10 p.m. KST.
