JTBC’s upcoming drama “The Nice Guy” has unveiled a closer look at Lee Dong Wook’s complicated family.
“The Nice Guy” is a noir drama that follows Park Seok Chul (Lee Dong Wook), the eldest grandson of a third-generation gangster family with an unexpectedly pure heart, and his first love Kang Mi Young (Lee Sung Kyung), a woman who dreams of becoming a singer.
Adding to the drama’s allure are the dynamic family members of Park Seok Chul. From realistic sibling squabbles to the weighty regrets between father and son, Park Seok Chul’s family chemistry is set to be a major highlight.
Oh Na Ra takes on the role of Park Seok Kyung, a troublemaker with no shortage of drama. After failing at both marriage and business, she turns to gambling—only to fail at that too and return home saddled with debt, dragged back by her siblings. Viewers can look forward to Oh Na Ra’s performance as the chaotic yet somehow lovable Seok Kyung.
Ryu Hye Young plays the youngest sibling, Park Seok Hee, known as the family’s elite. A nurse by profession, her strong and determined gaze reflects her smart and upright personality, making her the pride of the family. However, even Seok Hee will face moments where she must choose between her dreams and reality. Ryu Hye Young is expected to portray Seok Hee’s complex inner struggles with nuance and strength that won’t be overshadowed by her bold family members.
Chun Ho Jin plays Park Sil Gon, the pillar of the family. Wearing a neat suit and holding a fedora, Sil Gon has stepped back from the gangster world but retains an undeniable charisma. Once a nationally feared gangster, he now spends his days quietly tending a vegetable garden, regretting the choice that pushed his own son into the same underworld.
Lee Dong Wook shared, “They’re such amazing actors that no explanation is needed. I was happy to be able to act as a family with them.” Director Song Hae Sung added, “In dramas, it’s crucial how well actors fit their characters, and for ‘The Nice Guy,’ I felt indebted to every actor in that regard. Oh Na Ra and Ryu Hye Young carried the brighter sides of the story, while Chun Ho Jin beautifully conveyed the deep pathos of a father.
“The Nice Guy” is set to premiere on July 18 at 8:50 p.m. KST and will air two consecutive episodes every Friday.
