    Song Review: Treasure – Everything

Treasure’s latest mini album is one of those projects where every song is solid but none stand out as classics. There are worse things to release, and consistency is always an asset even if the music tops out at a “B” or “B+”. Multiple songs could have acted as the album’s title track, and Treasure seem to know this. Today, they’re promoted Everything as a follow-up to Paradise.

Everything carries a similarly upbeat energy to its predecessor but leans further into a rock sound. This is not new territory for Treasure and the genre always fits them well. The track is sprightly and well-constructed, delivering multiple refrains that hit with equal power. The production mostly stays out of the way, though I appreciate the old-school rock’n’roll beat that underpins verse two.

While simplicity is Everything‘s charm, I wish it found a way to build toward bigger peaks. The finale has a fun chanted sense of catharsis but the way the song is constructed constricts its ability to swing for the rafters. Rather than explode, the chorus exhales and coasts. This is a perfectly sound choice from a songwriting perspective, but sacrifices some sonic excitement.
