A special night of live music brought fans and artists closer than ever, with the premier of Silica Gel’s brand-new track and an immersive fan-first experience

    Spotify Speakeasy Live Artist Interview

SEOUL, SOUTH KOREA – July 2, 2025: Spotify – the world’s most popular audio streaming subscription service, teamed up with Korean indie rock band Silica Gelto deliver Speakeasy Live—a secret concert-style pop-up experience that brought long-time fans face-to-face with their favourite band for one unforgettable night.

Held in Seongsu, one of Seoul’s trendiest neighborhoods known for its creative energy, indie spirit, and vibrant gallery scene, Speakeasy Live was all about giving back to the listeners who’ve shown their love for Silica Gel’s music on Spotify over the years. Fans were selectively invited through a special draw, creating an intimate setting where true supporters could enjoy the band’s performance up close.

This live experience reflects Spotify’s ongoing mission to build delightful connections between artists and fans through meaningful, real-world experiences. It also highlights Spotify’s commitment to supporting a wide spectrum of Korean music—from indie to hip-hop to rock—and helping creative voices be heard far in Korea and worldwide.

A Space Transformed for Music and Memories

Inspired by the vibe of a hidden music bar, deeply rooted in Korean music fan culture, the venue was filled with fan-first touches that added to the immersive atmosphere. Guests were welcomed with exclusive merchandise, including a wristband, a lenticular card featuring Silica Gel’s iconic symbol, a slogan towel, and a commemorative pamphlet.

Inside, fans enjoyed interactive moments like the Speakeasy Bar, which served custom non-alcoholic cocktails tied to a Spotify playlist mission, as well as a themed photo booth and limited-edition goods designed around the band’s aesthetic.

Silica Gel ‘Spotify Speakeasy Live’ Performance

A Night of Live Music —and Something New

The highlight of the night was Silica Gel’s live set, packed with fan favorites like “APEX”, “Juxtaposition”, and “NO PAIN”, plus the very first-ever live performance of their upcoming track “南宮FEFERE”, set to release on July 10.

Content creator Sanghoon Moon from BDNS joined as special MC, keeping the energy high and the connection interactive with fans.

“It was incredibly special to share our new track with fans for the very first time,” said Silica Gel. “Huge thanks to Spotify for making this moment possible—and we hope everyone looks forward to our upcoming release ‘南宮FEFERE’ with Japanese Breakfast.”

“Speakeasy Live is a perfect example of how Spotify is creating new ways for artists and fans to come closer together both in the real world and on platform,” said Gautam Talwar, Spotify APAC GM. “We’re excited to keep supporting Korean music in all its forms—indie, hip-hop, rock, and more—so that artists can shine on both local and global stages.”

Shining a Light on Korean Indie Rock

Silica Gel’s Speakeasy Live comes at a time when Korean indie rock is reaching new heights on Spotify. Over the past year alone, K-rock streaming on the platform has surged by 155%, making it one of the fastest growing genres among Korean listeners.

Spotify has long supported Korea’s indie scene, recognizing its creativity and cultural impact. In 2023, Spotify rebranded its flagship playlist to Indie Korea, expanding its focus on homegrown indie talent and helping introduce those artists to listeners both locally and globally. Since 2017, streams of Korean indie music on Spotify have grown by 150%, with top markets including the U.S., Taiwan, Korea, Indonesia, and Thailand.

    Building More Fan-First Moments

This immersive fan experience follows the success of MAISON ENHYPEN, a pop-up event held in June with ENHYPEN. Both events are part of Spotify’s ongoing effort to create authentic, in-person moments that deepen the connection between artists and fans. Spotify will continue exploring new and meaningful ways to bring creators and listeners closer together—across every genre.
