On the latest episode of “The King of Mask Singer,” the identity of “Instant Camera” was revealed!
During the June 15 broadcast of the MBC singing competition, four contestants advanced to the next round in their quest for the throne.
In the first match-up of Round 2, “Instant Camera” impressed the crowd with a soulful rendition of Lee Ki Chan’s classic ballad “Love Has Left Again.”
After watching his performance, celebrity panelist Kwon Soon Il of Urban Zakapa noted that “Instant Camera” had sung the song—which was composed by JYP Entertainment founder Park Jin Young—in the exact “half-air, half-sound” style that Park Jin Young favored.
Yoo Young Seok went even further, chiming in, “While listening to Instant Camera sing, I thought to myself, ‘Oh, he’s one of Park Jin Young’s kids.’ This song was originally sung by Lee Ki Chan, but the vibe of [Instant Camera’s performance] was much more Park Jin Young than Lee Ki Chan.”
Yoo Young Seok added that Instant Camera had even reminded him of seeing the young Park Jin Young perform when he was still a teenager.
Spoilers
Although Instant Camera earned praise for his singing, he ultimately lost the round to his opponent, and he remained on stage to reveal his identity to the crowd.
Just as Yoo Young Seok had guessed, Instant Camera turned out to be a JYP Entertainment artist. The masked singer was none other than Donghyeon—one of the members of JYP’s new boy group KickFlip, who just debuted this past January.
“I was so happy to be able to come on ‘The King of Mask Singer,’ and I worked really hard to prepare,” said Donghyeon. The idol also talked about his journey of going from ice hockey player to JYP Entertainment trainee after appearing on the 2021 survival show “LOUD.”
When asked if he had any regrets about quitting ice hockey, Donghyeon replied, “I think I learned teamwork through playing ice hockey, and it helped me a lot.”
